Hand-crafted by the renowned stringer Annie Kanahele on the island of Ni'ihau Hawaii, this choker lei is truly a work of art.
Strung in the Kipona style, this necklace features a variety of shells and stringing techniques.
The shells are a mix of Momi (dove shells) with Lenalena (yellow/off-white), Uli Uli (blue/deep gray), Ke'oke'o (pure white), and Onikiniki (white with black/dark brown stripes) colorations, as well as Kamoa (dove shell tips) with Lenalena (warm yellow/gold) coloration and Kahelelani (turban shells) in the colors of Akala (rich pink), Akala Pua (pale pink), Oma'oma'o (green/tan), and Maku'e (burgundy).
The choker can be easily secured around the neck with a hook-and-eye closure, which has been skillfully concealed behind a pair of Pōleholeho (decorative shells used to tie-off the ends of each strand) of the smooth Apu'upu'u (bumpy cowrie) variety.

This necklace measures approximately 23 inches in length (from end to end when laid flat with the clasp open), creating a 10 inch 'drop length' when worn.
This choker was strung by Annie Kanahele, daughter of revered lei maker Mama Ane Kanahele on the island of Ni'ihau Hawai'i and is in excellent, like-new condition.
